Some of the most popular law enforcement rifles of the first half of the 20th century were made by Remington in Ilion, New York. I've got a Remington Model 81 autoloading rifle. The Model 81 features a pistol grip stock with a checkered metal buttplate. They have a smooth, narrow trigger, and a large lever-style safety on the right side of the receiver. They have an elevation adjustable rear sight and a bead front. The barrel length is 22 inches and it's housed in a barrel jacket, which holds the recoil spring. Remington produced this model from 1936 to 1950 with over 56,000 produced. This gun is chambered for the 35 Remington, but they also produced them in 30 and 32 Remington and 300 Savage. To see a demonstration of how it operates, be sure to watch the video above.
