The first rule of firearm safety is always the same: keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Always keep the action open and the ammo in your pouch or box except when shooting.
Eye and ear protection is always required, and the area down range must be clear of both people and buildings. Always know where your shot will end up. If everything is clear, call for the bird.
When you're finished shooting, always open the action and unload immediately. A bit of practice is always fun but remember you're responsible for your actions and for those around you. Always think safety. Always review the instructions before using the clay pigeon thrower. Make sure the path of the throwing arm is clear. Never stand in front of or move into the path of the throwing arm, as it can cause serious injury.
If using a hand thrower, always practice with it so you don't accidentally hit someone with the clay pigeon. Never use alcohol or drugs before or while shooting or operating the thrower.
Remember, firearm safety is your responsibility.
