In the video above, I'm going to show you how I set up my saddle hunting gear once I get up in a tree. I'm in my yard, I've got my platform and one stick already set up, and I'm going to take you into the tree with me to give you an idea of what kind of equipment you'll need for saddle hunting. Hopefully, this may also give you some inspiration for how you can set up your own system!
Before I even get in a tree, the first thing I have to do is attach my bow hanger to my bow. In my right pocket, I have a bow hanger that comes out of the bottom of my bag and attaches to my bow. I keep my lineman's belt in my right-hand pocket as well, and it is girth hitched to my saddle.
Once I'm ready to climb, I'll take my lineman's belt out of that right pocket because once I have that lineman's belt around the tree, I will be tightening it and loosening the Rope Man ascender with my left hand. I find it easier to grab and tighten with my left hand and this is just my preference.
I have a little twist tie where I put my extra sticks, and my platform is in my backpack. Once I'm ready to climb, I can grab a stick as I need it, and then once I get to the proper height, I pull my platform out of my backpack and get that hung as well.Once I'm up in the tree, I have my tether with a Tethrd HYS Strap to hold all of my equipment. I have a handy dandy hook on the left for my bow and a carabiner type clip on my right for my bag. I always like to keep my rangefinder close, and I love to hang my top stick at about the same level as my platform so I can maneuver around the tree, which just opens up some shot opportunities for me. Of course, you can't forget knee pads for leaning against the tree. And it is as simple as that!--Outdoors Allie
