If you aren’t using trail cameras year-round, it’s time to throw in some fresh batteries and fire them up for turkey season. In some states, turkey season opens as early as the first week of March. Most people think of whitetail when it comes to trail cameras, but they’re also a great tool to use for turkey. Flat, open strut areas or travel corridors like creek beds, ridge lines or dirt roads are great places to set up your camera to see what’s moving through the area. Keep an eye out for signs such as tracks, feathers, droppings, dust bowls and scratches. When it comes time to check your camera, try to head into the woods mid-afternoon when the turkeys aren’t as active.
