MidwayUSA Attends Quest for Excellence Conference and Receives 2015 Baldrige Award
by MidwayUSASenior leaders and middle management from MidwayUSA, an Internet Retailer of JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING® for Shooting, Hunting and the Outdoors, recently attended the 28th Annual Quest for Excellence Conference where they were presented with MidwayUSA’s second consecutive Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. The conference was held April 3rd through 6th at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland and served as the official conference of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews presided over the Sunday evening Awards Ceremony, joined by Undersecretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and Director, National Institute of Standards and Technology Dr. Willie May; and Baldrige Foundation Chair George Benson.
One of four organizations selected to receive the 2015 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, MidwayUSA applied for and was judged to be outstanding in the seven categories of the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. Over the last 28 years, the National Institute of Standards and Technology has selected a total of 102 organizations to receive the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. A recipient of the award in 2009, MidwayUSA is one of only seven organizations to earn the award twice since the first award cycle in 1988. Past award recipients are eligible to apply for the award each five full years after receipt.
Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, kicked off the week with a keynote speech on leadership, followed by a question and answer session with moderator Harry Hertz, Director Emeritus, of the Baldrige Program. Concurrent sessions were held throughout the next several days with MidwayUSA’s Senior Leadership Team leading presentations on Strategy, Customers, Measurement, Analysis & Knowledge Management, Workforce, and Operations. Matt Fleming, President of MidwayUSA, helped conclude the conference with an Elements of Excellence keynote entitled “When the Customers Wins, We Win.”
MidwayUSA recognizes the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award application process as a leadership and development opportunity for Employees, and for the MidwayUSA organization as a whole. In alignment with their continued pursuit of performance excellence, MidwayUSA plans to apply for the award again in 2021 in accordance with the Baldrige National Quality Award eligibility cycle.
