MidwayUSA Donates to Montgomery Community College Gunsmithing Program
by MidwayUSALarry and Brenda Potterfield of MidwayUSA recently donated over $30,000 to Montgomery Community College in Troy, NC. This donation will go towards purchasing handguns, rifles and shotguns to use in the school's Gunsmithing program.
According to Wayne Bernauer, Gunsmithing Program Head at Montgomery Community College, students currently must provide their own firearms as learning tools for the Gunsmithing program. Aside from the financial burden this may place on the student, this results in a disparate and often limited collection of firearms, making it difficult to instruct students in the depth and breadth of Gunsmithing techniques. The contribution from the Potterfields will enable the college to expose students to a wide range of handguns, rifles and shotguns through the Gunsmithing program. "On behalf of our faculty and staff, we are tremendously grateful for this gift from the Potterfields," remarked Bernauer.
"Gunsmithing programs at schools like Montgomery are critical to training the next generation of gunsmiths," said Larry Potterfield, President and CEO of MidwayUSA. "Unless we continue to train future craftsmen in the repair and maintenance of firearms, these skills will vanish with the current generation." The Potterfield family and MidwayUSA are strong supporters of the Second Amendment, the National Rifle Association and Gunsmithing Programs such as the one at Montgomery Community College.
