MidwayUSA Encourages Kids to Learn about Mulies and Conservation
by MidwayUSAEvery year at the Western Hunting & Conservation Expo (WHCE), a partnership between the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) and Sportsmen for Fish & Wildlife (SFW), attendees come to the convention to mosey through aisles of guns, gear, hunting guides and more. New for the 2012 show was the YWCE, a program developed with personal donations from the Potterfield family.
"The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) believes that our children and grandchildren are the key to protecting and growing our hunting heritage," said MidwayUSA Founder and CEO Larry Potterfield. "My wife Brenda and I believe the same things so it's an honor to participate in and support a program like the YWCE."
At this YWCE event, the visiting students participated in a variety of activities that included sighting in on an air rifle range, listening to wildlife educators and shooting skeet on an indoor sporting clays simulator programs, part of the MidwayUSA Foundation Scholastic Clay Target Program sponsorship.
"Part of our vision for the YWCE program is to 'engage and inspire young people to get involved in shooting sports and the outdoors so they will continue these activities into the future and become advocates of wildlife conservation'," said MDF Youth Programs Coordinator Jon Zinnel. "The MDF thanks MidwayUSA for their continued support to our organization and to helping us uphold this vision."
"The MidwayUSA partnership is critical for us to raise money and awareness to battle declining mule deer numbers," said Mule Deer Foundation COO Eric Tycksen. "Thank you for your continued support and dedication to wildlife conservation and our future hunters."
