MidwayUSA to Host the 2011 Share the Harvest Program Launch by MidwayUSA
Columbia, MO -

MidwayUSA, a catalog and Internet retailer offering JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING® for Shooting, Reloading, Gunsmithing and Hunting, is pleased to welcome Missouri Governor, Jay Nixon, and Executive Director of the Conservation Federation of Missouri, Dave Murphy, to the MidwayUSA Campus on Tuesday, November 1, to kick off the 2011 Share the Harvest program with the Missouri Department of Conservation.

Share the Harvest is a state-funded program that distributes donated venison to families in need with the help of organizations and businesses across the state of Missouri. The program is administered by both the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Federation of Missouri in collaboration with local food banks. Governor Nixon will visit MidwayUSA to talk about the importance of the program and businesses that support hunting in Missouri.

"For 20 seasons, Share the Harvest has been an important part of Missouri's legacy of sportsmanship, conservation and generosity," Governor Nixon said. "Thanks to the hard work of the Conservation Federation, the Department of Conservation, and businesses like MidwayUSA, this year will be bigger than ever. I appreciate all the hunters who have made Share the Harvest so successful over the past two decades, and I encourage folks who haven't participated in the past to get involved this year to help our neighbors in need."

Hunters desiring to participate in this program simply take their deer to an approved processor and specify how much meat they wish to donate. This year, Share the Harvest hopes to collect 10,000 deer, which is equivalent to almost 500,000 pounds of meat.

"Every year, Brenda and I donate deer from our farm to Share the Harvest," said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. "It's important to us to give back to the families in our community, and Share the Harvest presents us with a unique opportunity to do just that."
