Potterfields Win Prestigious 2015 Beretta SCI Conservation Leadership Award
Joseph Hosmer, President, Safari Club International Foundation (SCI Foundation) recently announced that Larry and Brenda Potterfield, founders of MidwayUSA, were awarded the first ever Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award. The award is given to individuals for demonstrating extensive international hunting experience and a lifetime of commitment to wildlife conservation and education though volunteer service and philanthropy. Over the years, the Potterfields have contributed generously to Conservation, Education and Humanitarian Services efforts in both time and financial resources.
“Brenda and I are very honored to accept this award from Beretta and SCI Foundation,” said Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA. “We passionately believe in and support Safari Club International’s mission to protect the freedom to hunt and to promote wildlife conservation worldwide.”
In recognition of this award, Larry and Brenda Potterfield received an elegant trophy provided by Beretta, presented by Pietro Gussalli Beretta and his wife Gretchen Gussalli Beretta Harnischfeyger. They also received custom gold and sapphire award pins created by jeweler Madleine Kay.
“This event is about recognizing true heroes of wildlife conservation for the invaluable work they do around the world, and it gives SCI Foundation a forum in which to share our mission and seek support for it,” Joseph Hosmer, President of SCI Foundation.
Finalists for the Award included Ralph and Deb Cunningham, Roman DeVille, Robert Model, John L. Morris and Byron and Sandra Sadler - all of whom were eminently qualified to receive the award. This year’s finalists will automatically be eligible for next year’s award along with any future nominations.
The winner of the prestigious award was announced and presented at the Inaugural Beretta and SCI Foundation Conservation Leadership Award Gala, an exclusive, black-tie event attended by over 350 guests held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on February 3rd, 2015. The evening’s schedule consisted of the “Oscar-style” award ceremony, a gourmet dinner, an elite live auction featuring exclusive one-of-a-kind items, and live entertainment featuring emcee J. Alain Smith host of the Rugged Expeditions television show and Humorist Jeanne Robertson.
